Severe Housing Problems

While Coös households experiencing severe housing problems has remained stable at 16% for the past few years, which is also the statewide average, 2,340 Coös households experienced a severe housing problem in 2017. That is defined as having at least 1 of the following:

  • housing unit lacks complete kitchen facilities;
  • housing unit lacks complete plumbing facilities;
  • household is severely overcrowded; and
  • household is severely cost burdened.

*Severe overcrowding is defined as more than 1.5 persons per room. Severe cost burden is defined as monthly housing costs (including utilities) that exceed 50% of monthly income.
